Terms used in our Remote Sensor Systems tables.

Platform Common name of the satellite that hosts the sensor(s)
Owner Country or agency responsible (comm indicates commercial venture)
Launch Date Note that most systems have a post-launch period of checkout before data are generally available
Orbit Geo - geosynchronous; SS - Sun Synchronous; LEO - Low Earth Orbit
Revisit (days) Number of days before a place on earth may be re-imaged (in some cases, number of days before orbit track repeats)
Sensor Name of sensor instrument package
Swath (km) Width image on the ground (kilometers)
Total FOR (km) Width of ground accessible (same as Swath unless system has off-axis pointing capabilities)
Number of Bands / GSD (m) Width of ground accessible (same as Swath unless system has off-axis pointing capabilities)
PAN Single band generally spanning visible spectrum (~ 0.4 - 0.8µm)
VIS Visible (~ 0.4 - 0.7µm)
NIR Near InfraRed (~ 0.7 - 1.5µm)
SWIR Short Wave InfraRed (~ 1.5 - 3µm)
MWIR MidWave InfraRed (~ 3 - 8µm)
LWIR LongWave Infrared (~ 8 - 15µm) also known as TIR or Thermal InfraRed
Bits/ pixel Amount of data stored for each spectral band for each pixel
Notes Additional information, such as cross-track (CT) or along-track (AT) pointing capability
