KYOTO AND BEYOND
The Kyoto Protocol, drafted in 1997, is due to expire in 2012. The Protocol is a first attempt on the part of nations, with mixed results, to stem "dangerous human interference" in the climate system. The specter of climate change poses significant challenges as we seek to improve and sustain our common future. Nations are planning to draft a new climate agreement this year in Copenhagen (COP 15, December 2009).
CLIMATE AGREEMENT TIMELINE, DATA, AND DATA VIEWER
To provide context and content to this important issue, ISciences has authored a brief chronicle of multilateral agreements, and is contributing a global data warehouse and data viewer to help visualize the changing world. "Kyoto and Beyond: The Evolution of Multilateral Agreements on Climate Change" is a PowerPoint® slideshow that includes timelines, narrative, and links to related treaties. TerraViva! Global Data Viewer and TerraViva! GeoServer enable anyone to quickly find, access, and easily view map-based visualizations of publically available scientific data about "earth with people." Look for future data postings to highlight climate change. |
