ISCIENCES WORLDWIDE WATER WATCH JUNE 2025

These maps depict regions that have encountered significant surface water anomalies during the one year period beginning in June 2024 and running through May 2025 and that are likely to encounter significant anomalies during the one year period beginning in March 2025 and running through February 2026 using 3 months of observed temperature and precipitation data and 9 months of forecast data.

The synopsis that follows provides highlights of regional water forecasts. Regional details are available in ISciences Global Water Monitor & Forecast Watch List June 13, 2025 (pdf).

United States: Moderate to severe surplus is expected to spread throughout regions of the southeast, including Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, and Louisiana throughout August 2025.

Canada: Pockets of exceptional deficits are expected to occur in the Prairie Provinces and Central Canada until August 2025.

Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean: Deficits in portions of southern Mexico and Central America are expected to continue until August 2025.

South America: Exceptional deficit is anticipated in eastern and central Brazil until August 2025, as is severe to extreme surplus in portions of the Amazon Rainforest.

Europe: Extreme to exceptional deficits are expected to occur in much of Europe until August 2025.

Africa: Surpluses are expected to linger throughout the Sahel until February 2026 or longer.

Middle East: Exceptional deficits are expected in the Levant and portions of the Fertile Crescent region until November 2025.

Central Asia and Russia: Portions of Buryatia and European Russia are anticipated to continue until August 2025, as will moderate to severe surplus in central Russia.

South Asia: Severe to exceptional surplus is anticipated in southeastern India until August 2025.

Southeast Asia and the Pacific: Several regions of Maritime Southeast Asia are expected to experience severe to exceptional surplus until August 2025.

East Asia: Portions of northwestern China are expected to observe exceptional deficits until February 2026 or longer.

Australia & New Zealand: Extreme to exceptional surpluses are expected to spread throughout northern Queensland until November 2026.
