The forecast through August indicates widespread intense water deficits in Brazil south of the Amazon while surpluses north of the river shrink. Exceptional deficits are also forecast along the Paraguay and Paraná Rivers. Deficits elsewhere include northeastern Colombia, central Peru, and Chile.

Regions forecast to have significant water deficits for the 12-month period of March 2021 through February 2022 include: the U.S. West, the Paraguay and Parana Rivers, North Africa, Turkey, Iran, Estonia, and Latvia. Areas with a forecast of significant water surplus include: Louisiana (U.S.), Botswana, Timor, and Northeast China. This Watch List is based on ISciences Water Security Indicator Model v2 (WSIMv2) run on 4 June 2021.
