The forecast through February 2022 indicates that water surpluses will shrink and downgrade in Indonesia and Pacific regions but remain widespread and intense in much of Southeast Asia. Anomalies will be extreme to exceptional in the Lower Mekong River Basin.

Regions forecast to have significant water deficits for the 12-month period September 2021 through August 2022 include: Chile, Venezuela, the Texas Panhandle (U.S), Quebec, North Africa, and Ukraine. Areas of significant water surplus include: China, Nepal, India, and Southeast Asia. This Watch List is based on ISciences Water Security Indicator Model v2 (WSIMv2) 6 December 2021.
