The forecast through February 2022 indicates that water deficits will intensify in the Carolinas. Deficits elsewhere include Florida, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. Surpluses are forecast in Michigan and its southern neighbors, through New York to the Atlantic Coast.

Regions forecast to have significant water deficits for the 12-month period September 2021 through August 2022 include: Chile, Venezuela, the Texas Panhandle (U.S), Quebec, North Africa, and Ukraine. Areas of significant water surplus include: China, Nepal, India, and Southeast Asia. This Watch List is based on ISciences Water Security Indicator Model v2 (WSIMv2) 6 December 2021.
