Central Asia & Russia: Water surplus forecast in N Sakha & Transbaikal

The forecast through July indicates water surpluses in the eastern Volga region, Middle and Lower Ob, northern Sakha, and Transbaikal. Deficits will be intense in the Yenisei’s eastern tributaries and moderate in Turkmenistan and Mangystau, Kazakhstan.

The forecast through June indicates widespread water surpluses in Russia from the Northern European Plain into the Yenisei River Watershed and in the eastern Volga River region. Exceptional deficits will emerge from Mangystau, Kazakhstan into Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

Areas of significant water surplus include: eastern Australia, China, India, and Indonesia. This Watch List is based on ISciences Water Security Indicator Model v2 (WSIMv2) 5 April 2022.
