Water surpluses are forecast through August for northeastern France; northern Portugal and Galicia, Spain; and North Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Water deficits are forecast for Germany, Poland, western Ukraine, Finland, the Baltics, Mediterranean Spain, Corsica, the Peloponnese region of Greece, and Crete. Deficits are expected to persist in Finland and the Baltics. With the exception of deficits in Finland, both deficits and surpluses throughout Europe are forecast to diminish in severity after August.

The outlook for the United States indicates widespread and varied water anomalies for much of the country. Water deficits are forecast for much of the Northeast, parts of the Southeast, Upper Midwest, and West, which are expected to be most severe June through August, particularly in the Northeast and West. Water surpluses are forecast for a vast portion of Texas which are also expected to be of greatest extent and exceptional severity through August.

Regions likely to encounter significant water deficits in the coming months include: central Brazil, North Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, the Arabian Peninsula, Iran, Finland, the Baltics, Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, and Timor. Water surpluses are forecast for: Texas, Sao Paulo, northern France, northwestern Iberian Peninsula, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, western Borneo, southeast China, and Kazakhstan. This watch list is based on ISciences' Water Security Indicator Model (WSIM) Global Water Monitor and Forecast issued 7 June 2016.

The outlook for June 2016 shows a dominant pattern of many severe to exceptionally warmer than normal temperatures - particularly in Brazil, North Africa, Southeast Asia, and Indonesia - along with a few pockets cooler than normal. Exceptional wet anomalies are forecast for portions of Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia.  Severe to extreme wet anomalies are forecast for portions of Texas, Mexico, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. Dry anomalies are forecast for portions of Uruguay, Brazil, Spain, Ethiopia, and India.

Exceptional water surpluses are forecast in north central Kazakhstan; farther west between the Ural and Emba Rivers northeast of the Caspian Sea; and, along rivers elsewhere in Kazakhstan. Exceptional surpluses are also forecast in Russia in an area northwest of Kazakhstan, from the Volga River through the Ural Mountains. Water deficits are expected in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, western Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

This capability has been in continuous operation since April 2011 and has proven to provide reliable forecasts of emerging water security concerns in that time-frame.
